The new version of the ISO 14001:2026 environmental management standard has been published. Marcela Ivankovich

On April 13, 2026, the ISO 14001:2026 environmental management standard was published, strengthening the requirements for establishing, implementing, and maintaining an environmental management system. While maintaining the high-level structure with 10 clauses, it includes more specific and explicit aspects. This also implies transitioning to the new version no later than approximately May 2029 for certification purposes.

This version allows organizations to adapt to a context that increasingly demands traceability, measurement, and relevant environmental issues, such as the sustainable use of resources, climate change, and improved performance evaluation for evidence-based decision-making.

It is essential that organizations implement the new requirements to strengthen their environmental management system and update it in the current context, in an increasingly competitive world that is aware of the importance of environmental impacts not only for companies but also for the environment.
